About me

Welcome to my homepage!
I'm Matteo Nurisso, PostDoc at CNR-ISAC of Turin. I obtained my Ph.D. in Physics at SISSA (Trieste).
I work on the field of climate science. I am part of the Destination Earth project, where I'm involved in the analysis of high-resolution climate models (IFS-NEMO, IFS-FESOM and ICON) and in developed of the framework and diagnostics for the quality assessment of climate simulations (AQUA code).
I'm also involved in the PRIN project EPOCHAL, with the goal to adapt EC-Earth 4 model to study paleoclimate.
Previously I worked on Computational Astrophysics, Plasma Physics, and Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD).

My Curriculum Vitae

Scientific interests

I'm currently involved in the quality assessment of climate simulations in the Destination Earth project and in the study of teleconnections in climate science.
I'm also involved in the PRIN project EPOCHAL (Earth system modeling of PaleOClimatic HyperthermALs), with the goal of using EC-Earth model to study paleoclimate, extending the EC-Earth4 version to include lower resolution configurations and the required boundary, domain and initial conditions for the paleoclimate simulations.
You can find more information in the Scientific Interests section.
My doctoral research was focused in astrophisics, specifically on the implementation of the acceleration of non-thermal component of particles due to magnetic reconnection in magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations, with the use of macro-particles to describe the behavior of the non-thermal component evolving concurrently with the fluid. I work with the MHD code PLUTO. You can find more information in the Astrophysics section.

Outreach

Since my MS I started doing outreach as a volunteer in the AISF association and as a collaborator in the University of Turin.
In SISSA I continued my outreach activities and I had, thanks to the SISSA Medialab, the possibility to take introductory classes in Science Communication.

Activism and Hobbies

I've always felt the need to be active part of the society, with my work and during my free time.
I started being a member of the Scout association since 2000. From 2013 to 2015 I have been Scoutmaster, being responsible for the activities and educations of kids in the primary school.

Silviadizenzero

Since 2013 I'm mostly involved in Silviadizenzero, an association whose primary goal are Climate Science popularization and spreading of Vegetarian Culture. Our main activities are the organization of workshops, meetings with experts, movie projections and collaborations with other associations in Italy. The main goal is to spread scientific culture about climate change and what can be done by individuals both with everyday decisions and lobbying.
Since 2018 I've been Vice-president of this association.
Since 2019, a festival dedicated to all the different arts, called Ginger Fest is organized by Silviadizenzero.
Since 2021 we collaborate with a regional radio, Radio Dora, creating and presenting a weekly live content on Climate change awareness.
In 2023 the association has celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Since 2024 I'm President of this association.
